The passuk says in this week’s sedrah (12:14); כִּי אִם בַּמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר יִבְחַר ה בְּאַחַד שְׁבָטֶיךָ שָׁם תַּעֲלֶה עֹלֹתֶיךָ וְשָׁם תַּעֲשֶׂה כֹּל אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּךָּ “Rather in the place which Hashem will choose in one of your shevatim there you will bring your olos and all there you will do all that I command you.” Rashi explains; "באחד שבטיך" – בחלקו של בנימין ולמעלה הוא אומר מכל שבטיכם הא כיצד כשקנה דוד את הגורן מארונה היבוסי גבה הזהב מכל השבטים ומ"מ הגורן בחלקו של בנימין היה “In one of your shevatim – this is in the portion of Binyamin. But previously it says ‘from all of your shevatim’ ? How is this so? The passuk says in this week’s sedrah; וַאֲהַבְתֶּם אֶת הַגֵּר כִּי גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם “You should love the ger because you were gerim in Mitzraim.” The Rambam says in Hilchos Deios (6) explains; הלכה ג': מצוה על כל אדם לאהוב את כל אחד ואחד מישראל כגופו שנאמר ואהבת לרעך כמוך לפיכך צריך לספר בשבחו ולחוס על ממונו כאשר הוא חס על ממון עצמו ורוצה בכבוד עצמו... הלכה ד': אהבת הגר שבא ונכנס תחת כנפי השכינה שתי מצות עשה אחת מפני שהוא בכלל ריעים ואחת מפני שהוא גר והתורה אמרה ואהבתם את הגר צוה על אהבת הגר כמו שצוה על אהבת עצמו שנאמר ואהבת את ה' אלהיך הקב"ה עצמו אוהב גרים שנאמר ואוהב גר הלכה ג' : “It is a mitzvah for everyone person to love everyone from klal yisrael as himself as the passuk says ‘ ואהבת לרעך כמוך’ – ‘you should love your friend as yourself’. The passuk in this week’s sedrah says; לֹא תְנַסּוּ אֶת ה' אֱלֹקֵיכֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר נִסִּיתֶם בַּמַּסָּה “You should not test Hashem as you tested Him in Massah.” The Sma”g ( mitzvas lo saaseh 4) explains; פירוש שלא יאמר אדם אעשה מצוה זו ואראה אם אתברך “This means, a person should not say, I will do this mitzvah and see if I will receive a berachah.” The Sma”g brings an exception to this halacha from the gemara in Taanis (9a), the gemara says; אשכחיה ר' יוחנן לינוקא דריש לקיש אמר ליה אימא לי פסוקיך א"ל עשר תעשר א"ל ומאי עשר תעשר א"ל עשר בשביל שתתעשר ...אמר ליה ומי שרי לנסוייה להקב"ה והכתיב (דברים ו, טז) לא תנסו את ה' א"ל הכי אמר רבי הושעיא חוץ מזו שנאמר (מלאכי ג, י) הביאו את כל המעשר אל בית האוצר ויהי טרף בביתי ובחנוני נא בזאת אמר ה' צבקות אם לא אפתח לכם את ארובות השמים והריקותי לכם ברכה עד בלי די מאי עד בלי די אמר רמי בר חמא אמר רב עד שיבלו שפתותיכם מלומר די “Rebbi Yochanan found the child of Reish Lakish and he asked him, ‘Which passuk are

After Moshe appointed the judges, he said to them; לֹא תָגוּרוּ מִפְּנֵי אִישׁ כִּי הַמִּשְׁפָּט לֵאלֹקִים הוּא “You (the judges) should not be afraid of any man because judgment belongs to Hashem…” To what extent must the judges not be afraid?
