The passuk in this week’s sedrah describes the six arei miklat that were designated for an accidental murderer to flee to; וְהֶעָרִים אֲשֶׁר תִּתֵּנוּ שֵׁשׁ עָרֵי מִקְלָט תִּהְיֶינָה לָכֶם “And the cities that you give will be six cities of refuge for you.” Not only did the six cities of refuge allow an accidental murderer to escape to them, but a murderer could also escape to the other 42 cities of the Leviim. The passuk says regarding the cities of the Leviim; וְאֵת הֶעָרִים אֲשֶׁר תִּתְּנוּ לַלְוִיִּם אֵת שֵׁשׁ עָרֵי הַמִּקְלָט אֲשֶׁר תִּתְּנוּ לָנֻס שָׁמָּה הָרֹצֵחַ וַעֲלֵיהֶם תִּתְּנוּ אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁתַּיִם עִיר “And the cities which you will give to the Leviim are the six cities of refuge which you will make so that a murderer can flee there and in addition to them you will give 42 cities.” The gemara in Makkos (10a) says that we learn from the words “ וַעֲלֵיהֶם תִּתְּנוּ ” – “in addition to them you shall give” that just as the six cities of refuge shelter a rotzeach , ...

The passuk says in this week's sedrah; וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֲלֵהֶם אִם יַעַבְרוּ בְנֵי גָד וּבְנֵי רְאוּבֵן אִתְּכֶם אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּן כָּל חָלוּץ לַמִּלְחָמָה לִפְנֵי ה' וְנִכְבְּשָׁה הָאָרֶץ לִפְנֵיכֶם וּנְתַתֶּם לָהֶם אֶת אֶרֶץ הַגִּלְעָד לַאֲחֻזָּה. וְאִם לֹא יַעַבְרוּ חֲלוּצִים אִתְּכֶם וְנֹאחֲזוּ בְתֹכְכֶם בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן. "And Moshe said to them, if every soldier from Gad and Reuvain pass over the Yarden with you before Hashem and the land is conquered before you then you should give to them the land of Gilad as their portion. And if they do not pass armed with you then they will settle amongst you in the land of Kena’an." The passuk says in this week’s sedrah; וּבַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי בְּאֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ מִקְרָא קֹדֶשׁ יִהְיֶה לָכֶם ...וַעֲשִׂיתֶם עֹלָה לְרֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ לַה' “And in the seventh month on the first of the month it will be a holy convocation to you, you shall not do any work, it is a day of blowing the shofar. And you should make a burnt offering as a pleasant smell to Hashem...” The Yalkut Shimoni explains; אמר רבי תחליפא קיסריא בכל הקרבנות כתיב והקרבתם וכאן כתיב ועשיתם אמר הקב"ה מכיון שנכנסתם לפני בדין ביום הזה ויצאתם בדימוס מעלה אני עליכם כאילו היום נעשיתם כאילו היום בראתי אתכם בריה חדשה הה"ד כִּי כַאֲשֶׁר הַשָּׁמַיִם הַחֳדָשִׁים וְהָאָרֶץ הַחֲדָשָׁה אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי עֹשֶׂה עֹמְדִים לְפָנַי נְאֻם ה' כֵּן יַעֲמֹד זַרְעֲכֶם וְשִׁמְכֶם “Rabbi Tachlifa from Caesaria said - in all other korbanos mussaf the passuk says ve'hikravtem – ‘you should bring’, whereas concerning the korban mussaf for Rosh ha'Shana the passuk says ve’asisem – you should make. The passuk says in the week’s sedrah ; וְעַתָּה לְכָה נָּא אָרָה לִּי אֶת הָעָם הַזֶּה כִּי עָצוּם הוּא מִמֶּנִּי אוּלַי אוּכַל נַכֶּה בּוֹ וַאֲגָרְשֶׁנּוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ כִּי יָדַעְתִּי אֵת אֲשֶׁר תְּבָרֵךְ מְבֹרָךְ וַאֲשֶׁר תָּאֹר יוּאָר “[Balak sent to Bilaam,] and now come please and curse for me this people because it is mightier than I, perhaps I will be able to smite it and divorce it from the land. The passuk in this week’s sedrah says that the  Parah Adumah  had to be burnt outside of the camp: זֹאת חֻקַּת הַתּוֹרָה אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה ה' לֵאמֹר דַּבֵּר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיִקְחוּ אֵלֶיךָ פָרָה אֲדֻמָּה תְּמִימָה אֲשֶׁר אֵין בָּהּ מוּם אֲשֶׁר לֹא עָלָה עָלֶיהָ עֹל. וּנְתַתֶּם אֹתָהּ אֶל אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְהוֹצִיא אֹתָהּ אֶל מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה וְשָׁחַט אֹתָהּ לְפָנָיו. “This is the statute of the Torah that Hashem has commanded; Speak to the  benei yisrael  and they should bring to you a perfectly red cow that has no blemish and upon which no yoke has been placed.
