The passuk says in this week’s sedrah (25:2) דַּבֵּר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיִקְחוּ לִי תְּרוּמָה Speak to the benei yisrael and they should take for me terumah . Why does the passuk not say ויתנו לי תרומה – and they should give terumah to me? The Chasam Sofer explains as follows: The gemara in Bava Basra (10b) says תניא אמר להן רבן יוחנן בן זכאי לתלמידיו בני מהו שאמר הכתוב (משלי י"ד, ל"ד) צדקה תרומם גוי וחסד לאומים חטאת נענה רבי אליעזר ואמר צדקה תרומם גוי אלו ישראל דכתיב (שמואל ב' ז', כ"ג) ומי כעמך ישראל גוי אחד בארץ וחסד לאומים חטאת כל צדקה וחסד שאומות עובדי כוכבים עושין חטא הוא להן שאינם עושין אלא להתגדל בו כמו שנאמר (עזרא ו', י') די להוון מהקרבין ניחוחין לאלהה שמיא ומצליין לחיי מלכא ובנוהי ודעביד הכי לאו צדקה גמורה היא והתניא האומר סלע זה לצדקה בשביל שיחיו בני ובשביל שאזכה לעולם הבא הרי זה צדיק גמור לא קשיא כאן בישראל כאן בעובד כוכבים It is taught in a baraisa: Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai said to his students: My son...

We have a general rule that טומאה הותרה בציבור This means that if the cohanim or the tzibbur are tomeh tumas mes then the cohanim can still bring korbanos tzibbur .  For example, the mishna says in Pesachim (77b): חמשה דברים באין בטומאה ואינן נאכלין בטומאה העומר ושתי הלחם ולחם הפנים וזבחי שלמי צבור ושעירי ראשי חדשים “Five korbanos are brought if the kohanim are tomeh but are not eaten be’tumah (because they do not need to be eaten for klal yisroel to have a kaporoh) – the korban omer, the shtei halechem on shavuos, the lechem haponim , shlomim brought by the tzibbur and the korban chatos for rosh chodesh.” The beis halevi asks as follows: The gemara says that “ yisroel sheomdu al sinai poskoh zuhamoson ” – when klal yisroel came to har Sinay they reached a madrega of Adam harishon before the chet of the etz hadaas, and would have lived forever had they not done the chet haegel. The possuk says ve’osu li mishkan ve’shochanti be’sochom – The Rambam explains that this is a mitzva to build the mishkan and also the beis hamikdash .   Building the mishkan was not dochech Shabbos –we learn the 39 melachos from the fact that building the mishkan was ossur on Shabbos. The gemara says in Shevuos (15b) that building the beis hamikdash is also not docheh Shabbos and Yom Tov.   It is not clear then building the beis hamikdash would always not be docheh Shabbos, however…   The mishna in Rosh haShana (30a) says that Rabbon Yochonon ben Zakai instituted that the whole day of the bringing of the omer (the 16th of Missan) chodosh should be ossur. התקין רבן יוחנן בן זכאי ... ושיהא יום הנף כולו אסור The gemara explains that although when there is no beis hamikdash chodosh can be eaten from alos on the 16th, however mehera yibaneh beis hamikdash and people will say that last year we ate chodosh on the 16th so this year we can also.
